International Children's Day!

          Belarus is home to more than 1.5 million children. Almost 120,000 babies were born in the country last year alone. Taking care of them is the task of not only the state, but also every adult Belarusian. Particular attention is paid to orphans - over 80% of them are brought up in families.
        Charity campaigns and flashmobs, as well as children's festivals and competitions will be held throughout the country today to mark International Children's Day.
         The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland, proclaimed June 1 to be International Children’s Day in 1925. After the conference, different governments around the world decided to declare a day as Children’s Day to draw attention to children’s issues. Many countries chose June 1, so this is the reason, why International Children’s Day take place on June 1.
         Children’s Day is recognized on various days in many places around the world, to honor children globally. It was first proclaimed by the World Conference for the Well-being of Children in 1925 and then established universally in 1954 to protect an “appropriate” day.
         International Day for Protection of Children, is observed in many countries as Children’s Day on June 1 since 1950, was established by the Women’s International Democratic Federation on its congress in Moscow (22 November 1949). Major global variants include a Universal Children’s Day on November 20, by United Nations recommendation.

It is estimated that about 20 to 25 million meteors weighing about 100 tons in total enter the Earth's atmosphere every day!
